Co-Founder of JMMB Group, Dr. Noel Lyon Recognized with National Honour

Co-founder of JMMB Group, Dr. Noel Lyon, was among the 44 Jamaicans conferred with the Order of Distinction, in the rank of Commander (CD), during the National Honours and Awards Ceremony, held on October 16 at King’s House. Dr. Lyon was recognized for his outstanding contribution to finance, regional and economic development and public service. 

Dr. Noel Lyon served as chairman for the JMMB financial group since its inception in 1992 until December 2016, when he retired; handing over the reins to Archibald Campbell. Lyon, alongside the late Joan Duncan, are considered pioneers of the money market industry in Jamaica, with the establishment of JMMB in 1992. During his chairmanship, JMMB Group has seen remarkable growth; key among them is regional expansion and growth in business lines in Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic. 


Prior to establishing JMMB, Dr. Lyon served in various capacities in the financial sector, including an 8-year stint at the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ), before being seconded from the BOJ to the Frome Monymusk Land Company, in the capacity of Managing Director. Dr. Lyon later went on to establish the National Development Bank of Jamaica (NDBJ), an institution that played a critical role in nation-building, providing loans to medium and large-scale enterprises, through approved financial institutions; and later, in his capacity as Managing Director of the Jamaica Venture Fund Limited, he was instrumental in assisting the entity to achieve its mandate of providing equity and/or quasi-equity investments in medium and large businesses in Jamaica. 


He also worked as resident manager at Kaiser Development Corporation and as a part-time lecturer at the UWI, Mona.
Over 257 Jamaicans were recognized on the occasion for their outstanding and dedicated contribution in the fields of: music, sports, creative service, public service, education, finance, religion, philanthropy, health, law, tourism and journalism; in addition to uniformed personnel.
