What if I must use a foreign currency cheque from an overseas bank?
If you must use a foreign currency cheque, drawn on an overseas bank/financial institution, then make the cheque payable to JMMB and we will be able to negotiate it, on your behalf.
What if I need a foreign currency cheque to be negotiated in Jamaica?
If the foreign currency cheque will be negotiated locally, then request a local clearing foreign currency cheque from JMMB Bank.
What if I am not sure where the payee will negotiate the cheque (i.e. whether locally or overseas)?
If you are unsure of where the cheque will be negotiated, then use a foreign currency cheque issued by a local commercial bank.
Once the funds are wired to my account, how soon can it be accessed?
- If the funds are being transferred to a JMMB Bank account, it will be accessible once it is cleared.
- If the funds are being transferred to a JMMB Investments account, it can take up to 3 business days to clear.
What foreign currencies are affected by the new limitations?
All foreign currencies are affected. Additionally, when negotiating Canadian dollars (CAD), please note that you will not be able to make a foreign currency cheque payable to JMMB Bank, which exceeds CAD$100,000, nor local clearing (negotiated in Jamaica only), which exceeds CAD$200,000.
