JMMB Joan Duncan Foundation Renews Partnership with CUMI to Advance Mental Health Support in Jamaica
The JMMB Joan Duncan Foundation is once again partnering with the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) to advance mental health support in Jamaica, reaffirming its commitment to improving the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental illness. As a Platinum Sponsor of the 6th Annual Tryall-CUMI Charity Golf Tournament, the Foundation is supporting efforts to raise critical funds and awareness for initiatives that promote dignity, independence and greater access to mental health resources.
The tournament supports CUMI's Legacy Project, a transformational initiative to establish a Transitional Housing Facility for persons living with mental illness. Designed to bridge the gap between institutional care and independent living, the facility will provide residents with a safe and supportive environment while helping them build the skills, confidence and stability needed to successfully reintegrate into their communities.
The proposed facility represents a significant step in strengthening Jamaica's mental health support system, offering hope not only to individuals navigating mental illness, but also to families seeking greater care and long-term support for their loved ones.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Foundation at the launch event, Miguel Beckford, Branch Manager, JMMB Fairview, highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives that address the holistic well-being of Jamaicans. "At the Foundation, we remain committed to helping individuals and communities thrive. We believe that true nation-building requires us to support the holistic well-being of our people, including mental health, which continues to be an area of critical need across Jamaica."
He noted that the Foundation was proud to once again partner with CUMI in support of the Legacy Project. "This project represents hope, dignity and a pathway to greater independence for many individuals and families who need it most. We therefore welcome the opportunity to once again contribute to CUMI's mission and the meaningful work being undertaken through this tournament."
The Foundation's support for the tournament forms part of its broader commitment to community development and transformation.
