The Real Prize Was the Habit: How the JMMB Goal Saver Challenge Inspired One Client's Investing Journey

25 August 2026

When Juen Powell recently logged into her JMMB account, it was not the cash prizes she had won that left the biggest impression. Instead, it was seeing how much she had accumulated through months of consistent investing. A two-time winner in the JMMB Goal Saver Challenge, Powell credits the initiative with helping her develop a level of financial discipline that has continued well beyond the excitement of the prize draws.

"I was looking at the account recently and I was really impressed with myself," she shared. "Before this Challenge, it would not have been easy or encouraging for me to put aside J$20,000 every month. Now, when I look at how much I have accumulated since the competition started, it motivates me even more to keep going."

For Powell, the Challenge became about much more than winning. It provided the structure and motivation she needed to consistently invest toward her future goals while experiencing first-hand the benefits of staying committed. "Even beyond the competition, I'm still motivated to continue putting money aside," she explained. "Just seeing how much I've accumulated from when I started is enough motivation for me to continue, and I plan to do so."

Her experience reflects the broader goal of the JMMB Goal Saver Challenge, which was designed to encourage Jamaicans to develop healthy saving and investing habits while earning opportunities to win consolation prizes along the way. Since its launch, participants have been challenged to make monthly contributions of at least J$20,000 to qualifying accounts, reinforcing the value of consistency and long-term financial planning.

The initiative continues to gain momentum. To date, three monthly prize draws have been completed, resulting in 30 winners receiving J$10,000 each. Participants still have opportunities to win in the fourth and fifth consolation draws, with the grand prize draw for J$500,000 scheduled for November. Based on qualifying requirements, participants remain eligible for upcoming draws as they continue their savings and investing journey.

Powell says the experience has strengthened her belief in the importance of investing and has inspired her to encourage others to start their own financial journeys. "We all have goals, and investing is one way of motivating yourself to achieve them," she said. "Investing is more than saving. By investing, you have the opportunity to earn more than you would from simply keeping money in a regular savings account. That's what attracted me to the Challenge in the first place."

Her enthusiasm has proven contagious, with several colleagues expressing interest in participating after hearing about her experience and success.

Powell's relationship with JMMB has also continued to grow. She noted that through her financial journey, she has explored additional products and opportunities that support her goals, deepening her commitment to building long-term wealth through disciplined investing.

Kerry-Ann Stimpson, Group Chief Marketing Officer, JMMB Group, said stories like Powell's demonstrate the true purpose behind the initiative. "While the prizes certainly add excitement, the real impact of the Goal Saver Challenge is helping our clients build habits that can serve them long after the promotion ends," she said. "Juen's story is a powerful example of what can happen when consistency meets purpose. We are delighted to see participants not only winning but developing greater confidence and discipline in pursuing their financial goals."

As the Challenge approaches its final draws, JMMB remains encouraged by the positive stories emerging from participants who are discovering that the greatest reward may not be the cash prizes themselves, but the financial habits, confidence and progress they build along the way.
