Our Story

Thirty years ago, Joan Duncan and Dr. Noel Lyon had a vision to create financial opportunities so that people from all walks of life could achieve their financial goals. How would they do it? By pioneering the money market in Jamaica and building it into a multi-faceted financial institution, underpinned by the core values of love, openness, genuine care, integrity, transparency and honesty.

Armed with expertise and a firm belief in the potential of all human beings, these kindred spirits co-founded Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB).

Today, we celebrate with our over 412,000 clients and 900+ team members that 30 years later, we have grown to become a regional financial services provider in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago, offering: investments, banking, consumer financing, money transfer, funds management and insurance brokerage, that help individuals and businesses to transform their dreams into reality.

As we grow, we remain committed to our belief that our success is rooted in our Vision of Love and best interest of all – our clients, our team, our shareholders and our countries.

Thank you for partnering with us, we look forward to serving you for the next 30 years and beyond.

“JMMB has provided a nurturing environment that has fostered my growth & importantly built lifelong friendships with people who are more than friends, but truly family.” - Carolyn DaCosta, Team Member for 27 Years

  3.  What one word/sentence would you use to describe our late co-founder Joan Duncan?
If I was to describe the late Joan Duncan, in a word, she was an authentic person, who truly cared for others, she has no pretense, a real down-to-earth person.

  1. What do you love most about being a part of the JMMB team?
I love that JMMB Group has provided a nurturing environment that has fostered by growth personally and professionally and importantly form and build lifelong friendships with people who are more than friends, but truly family.

  2. How has JMMB Group stood for your greatness in achieving your goals – personal and/or professional?
JMMB Group has stood for my greatness by embracing who I am and allowing me to explore new ways of learning and thinking, and to bring innovation into my role. I have grown up in the company, starting at a time when there were just a few members of the team, beginning my journey at JMMB in 1995 as a branch supervisor, then going on to hold several senior positions including branch manager for JMMB’s then flagship location – Island Life, settlement manager, technical operations and compliance manager. Joining then provided me with the opportunity to develop and shape many of those roles and departments, laying a solid foundation for transformation as the organization grows and changes.

  3. What one word/sentence would you use to describe our late co-founder Joan Duncan?
The word that comes to mind when I think of our late co-founder is caring, she really had a genuine heart for people and loved to just see people improve their lives.

  4. JMMB Group has grown in the last 30 years, what achievement or milestone are you most proud of?
I am especially proud of JMMB for going public in 2003, listing on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE). This was one of my first major projects I worked on, and although challenging I am happy to see that this step has propelled the further growth of the Group over the years.

  5. What would be your message to JMMB Group for the next 30 years and beyond, including a message to the team?
My message to the team who will continue to make JMMB Group what it is for the next 30 years and beyond is, you are going to spend the majority of your days and life at work and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and love what you are doing. Therefore, be purpose-driven, JMMB provides the way for you to create your professional path, so there is no need to wait on someone to create the path for you.  Your future lies in your hands.

Elaine Evans, Senior Caregiver

Team Member for 28 years

  1. What do you love most about being a part of the JMMB team?
I love that at JMMB, I feel a sense of belonging; the values of the company are aligned with my own personal values and that makes it so easy to interact with others.

  2. Share one of your fondest/most memorable experience since being at JMMB.
I recall a retreat where as a team we came together to create the company’s Vision of Love, which remains our guiding principle, the exercise brought us all to tears with Mrs. Duncan (Joan) and Donna crying enough for all of us … that was a day I will never forget.

  3. How has JMMB Group stood for your greatness in achieving your goals – personal and/or professional?
JMMB facilitated my professional certification in practical nursing and early childhood care. I was given the opportunity to spearhead the setting up and certification of the nursery by the Early Childhood Commission.  I am happy that I can work in my passion, as I truly enjoy my interactions with the young ones whose development I have been able to influence over the years, I am so proud of our nursery graduates, some of whom are now young professionals, as medical doctors, accountants, IT specialists, public relations and marketing officers, law enforcement officers, marine biologist, and so much more, having passed through the hands of the nursery team.

  4. JMMB Group has grown in the last 30 years, what achievement or milestone are you most proud of?
I am most proud to see that this small organization that started with one office has expanded into other Caribbean territories and we also have our own bank.

  5. What would be your message to JMMB Group for the next 30 years and beyond, including a message to the team?
My message to JMMB Group for the next 30 years and beyond is, “Let us keep our unique culture alive.”

  6. What is one lesson that you learnt from co-founder, the late Joan Duncan?
The biggest lesson I learnt from the late co-founder, Joan Duncan was the importance of teamwork.  When JMMB went public in 2003, the team members were all huddled late in the evenings balancing and doing other end-of-day activities and the nursery remained open until 1 am attending to the little ones that were left in our care, as the team worked to make it all possible. The aunties all rallied together to support the process so that parents would not have had the added stress of worrying about the care and comfort of their children, together we did it and many years later. I am happy to see that years later, we have an online system, JMMB Moneyline, that makes these offerings easier.
