JMMB Group Cops Top Awards at JSE Best Practices Awards
At the recently held Jamaica Stock Exchange’s (JSE) Best Practices Award Ceremony, JMMB Group copped the top award, walking away with the prestigious Governor General's Award for Excellence (for the main market), in the listed companies’ award category. JMMB emerged the overall winner in this category, among the 35 listed companies on the main market, while Honey Bun took home the prize for the junior market, in this category.
The Governor General Award for Excellence examines the listed companies on both the main market and junior market, using the following criteria: corporate disclosure and investor relations, website, annual report, best performing company and corporate governance.
JMMB Group and its subsidiary, JMMB Securities Limited, were among the winning circle at the awards ceremony, copping a combined total of seven awards at the event, which took place at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
Among the awards received by JMMB Securities, was winner of the top award for Member Dealers, which recognizes security dealers in the following areas: revenue generation, investor relations, website and expansion of investors and listed companies base. Additionally, JMMB Securities received other awards including, being named: joint winner alongside Stocks & Securities Limited (SSL) for investor relations and winner of the expansion of investors and listed companies base.
JMMB Group also shared the top of the podium with NCB Financial Group and Scotia Investments Limited for the annual report award and corporate disclosure and investment relations award, respectively. The Group was also awarded the prize for first runner up for the PSOJ/ JSE Corporate Governance Award.
Keith Duncan, CEO of JMMB Group, in expressing gratitude and humility for the accolades received by the entity at the recent awards ceremony noted, “To have received such recognition in our 25th year is affirmation that our founding values of love and standing for the greatness in all human beings, continue to be the cornerstones of success. The annual JSE Best Practices Awards is designed to provide an avenue to recognize listed companies and stockbrokers in the securities industry, who uphold best practices, standards and create an awareness of the standards for best practices.
In speaking on the occasion Marlene Street – Forrest, Managing Director of JSE, encouraged the companies to deepen their commitment to good corporate governance practices stating, “For regulated markets such as ours, best practices should be a core mission for all: that is for our brokers dealers, the Exchange and our listed companies as this goes in tandem with our efforts to promote confidence, transparency and trust in our market and by extension our economy. She further touted the merit in the adoption of best practices across all sections of the organization and remarked, “Good governance and profitability are the corner stones of every great company and we believe this drives profitability and allows us to operate in the most advanced financial markets.”
