What you need to know about opening an account.

Getting started with JMMB is easy and we are here to help you every step of the way. The first thing you will need to do is gather all the necessary documents.

You will need the following important information:

 

  1. One (1) piece of valid identification. Remember to ensure that your identification is not expired. (e.g. Passport; Driver’s License; Resident Card; Passport Card; Citizenship Card or National ID. IMPORTANT: if nationality is not stated on any of the above forms of identification, then a Birth Certificate must be provided.)
  2. Two (2) references. Only the name and telephone number are required. (e.g. Notary Public or Justice of the Peace; Police Officer at or above the rank of Inspector; Army Officer at or above the level of Major; Minister of Religion; Attorney at Law including Parish Judge, Judge & Chief Justice; Medical Doctor; Chartered Accountant; Current Employer; Banker’s Reference; Principal (if the institution is registered with the Ministry of Education); Director of a company within the JMMB Group; JMMB Group Client of over two years; or JMMB Team Member of over a year. Only 1 reference can be from a team member.)  Relatives or joint account holders may not provide references.
  3. Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN).  Required for all Jamaican clients over the age of 18 years.
  4. National Reference Number. Required for all non-Jamaican clients (e.g. Social Security or Taxpayer Identification Number for citizens of the United States.)
  5. Source of Funds Information. A description of the source of funds being used to open the account, as well as the (projected) source of future investments or deposits. Proof of income is not required.
  6. Proof of Residential Address. Required for each client on the account. This should include your name and home address, and must not be older than 3 months (e.g. Current utility bill including, electricity; telephone; water; cable; post-paid mobile phone bill.) Please note that the service address on the utility bill must correspond with the address indicated as your residential address. Current credit card or bank statement.  Postmarked envelope showing your current permanent address. (e.g. Mail yourself an envelope to your current residence, once received this can be used to show proof of your residential address.)

Adding Minors (Under 18)

To add a minor to an account, the following information is required:

 

  1. Birth or Adoption Certificate.
  2. One (1) piece of valid identification. Remember to ensure that your identification is not expired. (e.g. Passport; Driver’s License; Resident Card; Passport Card; Citizenship Card or National ID. 
  3. Notarized Picture. (Only required, if valid picture identification is not available).
  4. Taxpayer Registration Number. (Only required for specific accounts.) 
  5. Letter from Parent or Legal Guardian authorizing the opening of an account. (Only required if they are not accompanying the minor.)

 

IMPORTANT. Minors must be on an account with an adult. Once the minor turns 18 years old the other required documentation, outlined above, must be presented before the individual can perform any transactions on the account.
